3.8.16

The outside is done!*

I love it! I love the color, the look of the siding, the white trim, everything!

The cabinets should be delivered tomorrow and the flooring installed by the end of the month. We also signed the refinance paperwork today.

(*except for the rubber roof, front storm door, and painting the garage door)

3.7.16

The siding and trim is all done.  Just a bit of window trim left.

Doesn't the step look silly without a door there? :)

They also installed the outside light, although it doesn't work yet.

Getting close. :)

3.5 & 3.6.16

*We* did a lot this weekend in preparation for delivery of the cabinets late this week.

That meant more shopping, including looking at lots of things and actually getting a storm door.  It's pretty simple, but better than what we have--and its white.

We checked the cabinet handles we'd chosen with the cabinets we'd chosen and are happy with them:

We also spent a lot of time packing up food and seldom-used appliances and dishes to clear space.  The pre-fab pantry that's older than Travis was finally laid to rest.

We then started tearing up the linoleum in the kitchen. That was exhausting--think I'll sleep well tonight! Luckily we'd picked up a heat gun, which was helpful.

The owner of the company doing our exterior work stopped by to see how things are going and to check on our roof/chimney issue. He said the siding/cladding/trim should be done in two days so they can send out the gutter people.  He also informed us that our leaking roof is not a chimney issue per se, and therefore not easily fixable. Apparently the company that did our addition should not have left such a small pitch (it's 1, if that means anything to anyone reading) and the way to fix it is to replace it with a rubber roof. Sigh. More $$$ and not exactly a fun thing to have to do as an add-on. On the other hand, this should stop the continuous water leaking in and damaging the hallway and our bedroom window.

Today they brought out the big scaffolding to work on the north side of the house:

That's about it!

3.3.16

The outside is really coming along!

Most of the addition is sided:

They started on the area over the garage:

Clad some more windows:

And put soffits on the front:

Last night we went back to Home Depot to sign some paperwork, look at faucets, drawer pulls, screen doors, back splashes, and appliances.  We ended up buying a dishwasher, stove and microwave--all Whirlpool brand in the color slate. I love the color! I'm also especially excited about the stove--it's called Profile, and the flat top goes all the way to the edge, without a lip. Very exciting!

Unfortunately, they charge us to haul away the old appliances, so if anyone wants a dishwasher, stove and/or over-the-stove microwave for free (you pick up), let us know.

We got two great finds at HOBO today. The first are drawer pulls for the new cabinets:

The second is that we found stools!  They are exactly what we were hoping to find--backless, rectangular, slightly distressed:

We'll have a table and chairs and benches to get rid of, too, but will sell those, as they're newer.

It's getting more real. :)

3.2.16

More exterior stuff done!

Siding on the south side:

Siding and trim almost done on the east side:

And look--soffits on the east!

Tonight we're back to Home Depot for more paperwork and specifics on what else we need to arrange before the inside stuff.

3.1.16

The snow put a damper on the outside work today:

But they installed the new window in T's room:

We're still hunting for bar stools, but found a few ideas online. Hope to check some out in person later this week.
